More of the Same?
Have the car brands forgotten about us Petrolheads?
The Week In Cars
The whole car industry has gone off on holiday, just like F1.
Or maybe they are all shipping their cars to California for Car Week?
But here’s what to look forward to.
Rolls Royce has created another Spectre, talking about their “…bold, youthful clients”, but the latest commission, called Semaphore, is not doing anything for me, even if the marbled paint spill bonnet design took 160 to do.
Maybe I’m just getting old, as it’s probably already sold ahead of the unveiling on the 16th. at The Quail during Monterey Car Week.
And another company with event led specials is Singer, this time Turbocharged coupe, Targa and Cabriolet versions of their 911s.
I especially like the flatnose, but wouldn’t say “No” to any of them, and hope to be able to vist the factory in a few weeks time (🤞).
Then there’s Maserati, who have their Grand Finale Quattroporte, and an one-off MC20.
I’ve always liked the idea and style of the Quattroporte, and the Blu Nobile exterior, contractsing interior and the carbon fibre body kit is definitely “a bit of me”. And then tehirs the engine and all its character.
But never quite taken the plung to own a Maserati. I came close once to changing my M3 for one as a daily driver, but my head won over my heart, as nobody likes too much depreciation.
I think I mentioned this company last week, becuase they have an enviable reputation in the rcaing world, and the abilitgy to take race cars and make the road legal, so it was good to see RML will launch four projects.
First is a track car using Formula 1 insipred aerodynamic technology.
Next there will be a Le Man Hypercar influenced Porsche 911-based project, and form the images, it looks impressive.
Third is a carbon-boddied, bespoke version of the origional Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
And finally, RML are going to start working more with their battery technology (which is a key part of the McMurtry).
Talking of McMurty, they have just broken the Castle Combe lap record by over 4 seconds, and yes, there’s a video of it.
And finally, in the new for Monterey car news, is the Pininfarina B95.
This is their first physical car, and it’s Batman insirped (which is fine but maybe too contrived?)
In My Opinion…
There’s news from peopel like the SMMT, Autotrader, Volvo and HPI that EV slaes are starting to appeal to buyers, especially in the used market.
Maybe this is becuase used EVs are less expensive than their petrol and deisel alternatives by around 8.5% after 3 years, and 14% after 4 years.
And Volvo have seen sales grow, saying that’s a result of their EV products.
As a petrolhead, would a new of used EV at an advatagious proce make you buy one?
And on the event front, maybe if you’re like me, a fan of the 80’s and 90’s the Hagerty’s RADwood UK event, in Chatham, Kent is one worth visiting?
It’s a the Historic Dockyard on the 7th. Spetember, and they say it’s not just a celebration of cars from tose decades, but also things like fashion, music, entertainment and even things like BMX and skaeboarding.
So that’s all for this (quiet) week, but hopefully things will be more exciting in the next few weeks.
