The New BMW M5

Will The New M5 Still Be One Of The Best Daily Drivers?

The iconic BMW M5 is back but heavier and slightly slower than the car it replaces.

This 4-door beast still goes into battle with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine, this time cranking out 585 horsepower from the high-revving petrol engine, and now it has another 197 from an electric motor too.

But it's not just about speed; the M5 is also smarter. It features BMW's latest iDrive 8 system, offering seamless connectivity and intuitive controls, as you’d expect of a luxury new car costing around £110,000.

On the design front, the M5 boasts an aggressive stance, with sleek lines and an aerodynamic body that screams performance, but is it too aggressive?

I used to drive an M5 daily and loved its performance. But because I removed the badges, most people thought it was “just a 5 Series,” which I appreciated.

Some cars in the new 5 Series lineup are already performance-oriented, and there’s the i5, too, so the new M5 has competition from its own family. And the M5 CS is an all-time great M car, so the new car has big boots to fill.

The latest M5 is certainly something I’m interested in as a petrolhead, but I’ll need to drive it and use it as I would day-to-day to see if it’s what an M5 owner wants from their car.
