New Porsche 992.2

Is this the Petrolhead solution for integrating petrol and electricity?

The big news is that the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS is the first production model featuring the innovative T-Hybrid powertrain.

This hybrid system pairs a 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine with an electrically driven turbocharger and an in-transmission electric motor, delivering 532 hp and 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds.

There’s also the updated 911 Carrera, which boasts a 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine with 388 hp. It remains just under the £100,000 mark in the UK, but that’s just a distraction for the 992.2 model.

The 2025 models are defined by enhanced aerodynamics, new LED Matrix headlights, and a refreshed interior with a fully digital cockpit. However, the lack of back seats as standard seems a little un-911-like, even if they’re a no-cost option.

There are also a few external tweaks, some of which I think lack the sophistication I’ve come to expect from modern Porsches. And some interior details may not be quite the quality you expect from Porsche.

Unsurprisingly, this new car is heavier than the one it replaces, but Porsche has done its best to minimise the impact.

I’ve had a Porsche on my driveway since the early 2000s, but I’m not sure this new GTS version will make me rush to the dealer.

I feel the 911 has become a little too safe and more suited to daily driving, especially as I don’t play the game when it comes to buying all sorts of models I don’t want in the hope of getting a GT car at the list price.

I think the track performance of this 992.2 is less relevant, as there are more engaging ways to lap a circuit. But let’s see what it’s like to drive before I make my definitive decision.
