Silverstone F1 This Week. Goodwood Next Week

It's a busy week for petrolheads

The Week In Cars

As Goodwood’s Festival of Speed approaches, manufacturers are teasing new and limited-edition models that will make their “dynamic debut” up the hill.

Starting with Aston Martin they have new cars like the ultra-exclusive Valiant and a DBX707 called the AMR24 Edition.

In the UK, for the first time, will be the Carmen Sagrera, an 1114hp electric supercar.

The new and first Electric Mini John Cooper Works is at the other end of the EV segment, but still with some Petrolhead appeal (as much as it can be, anyway).

Then we have the Land Rover Defender Octa, which takes the current model's extremes to new levels on and off the road.

Ferrari brings six new cars to the festival: the Roma Spider, 812 Competizione A, SF90 XX Spider, SP-8, 499P Modificata, and the 296 Challenge.

Other cars doing the rounds, including ahead of an appearance at Goodwood, are…

The Lamborghini Urus SE is on its “World Tour,” so people can see the plug-in hybrid at 12 locations throughout Europe, America, and the Far East.

Rolls-Royce in London celebrated the British summer, finally arriving by hosting an event at The Hurlingham Club.

Maserati showed the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello, their 100% electric convertible.

And British EV innovator showed off their Nyobolt, the dynamic testbed and proving ground for ultra-fast charging.

In My Opinion…

There are three things on my mind this week.

The F1 Battle We’ve Been Waiting For:

The first is the battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris in F1 after the Austrian Grand Prix – will this continue to Silverstone this weekend?

I hope so, but this time without the British driver's retirement because he and McLaren (I know I’m biased) deserve to be on the podium's top step.

A Change In The Car Market?

The car market here in the UK may be softening when you look at what’s selling and what’s not on platforms like Collecting Cars, Bonhams, and Carhuna.

Modern Porsches struggle to meet their reserve prices, and sales seem to come from more modest-priced cars.

Maybe the reserves are too high, but let’s see what happens after the UK election. I’d have expected bidding to be strong, especially since the sun’s been out.

Let’s face it: plenty of car events and days out are the perfect excuse for a petrolhead to justify their latest purchase.

For when you need to take a break and get your daily fix:

Finally, it is something from social media: Singer’s One More than Ten (Years) video with Chris Harris.

This could be what we Petrolheads want to see: a genuine Petrolhead driving a car designed for genuine Petrolheads, the way it’s intended to be, not just around the West End of London.

I’m not jealous. Honest. I just want a Singer even more now, but prices may have jumped beyond what’s realistic.
